The Vivi Gen.2 Device is a powerful LED driver, capable of powering thousands of addressable L.E.D lights in a variety of voltages and form factors, and configurable wirelessly via bluetooth and wifi.
the next iteration of visual vibes' flagship product, the Gen.2 required significant aesthetic and functional design improvements to reflect the substantial evolution in capability and performance over the first-gen model, and represent a value proposition appropriate for its price point.
While highly capable in its own right, the gen. 1 model, shown here, was little more than a modified project box with the necessary I/o.
Beginning with form studies, a desirable overall shape was chosen as the starting point, and a quick mockup model rendered before applying real-world design constraints.
Working with the client to develop their desired design language, preliminary models were created to choose favorable elements and further narrow the design constraints. Decisions like connector style and button shape were refined.
The final design would end up being a combination of elements from a variety of mockup models, resulting in a unique and original design perfectly proportioned to the electronics within.
The final design met all requirements, including aesthetic appeal in-line with the client's desired brand image, as well as both halves of the enclosure being injection moldable with a 2-part mold.
